MISSED YOU AT THE SHOW UNVEIL SECOND SINGLE
“One of Manchester music’s most deeply emotive new rock outfits.... debut single ‘Human’ might well be the greatest slice of apocalypse-obsessed angst-rock we’ve heard since Muse...” David Sue, City Life, Manchester Evening News
This North West based five-piece have been hotly tipped for great things by anyone who has heard their work, either out of a studio or watching them on stage. And there’s a rare truth behind this thinking. Consequently when Manchester based Missed You At The Show unveil their second single, Pretty Riddle, plenty of people will be taking note.
Not least as the band, who are still at university, have built up a reputation for delivering captivating live performances, resulting in their solid fan base. And it’s that same natural talent that’s inherent in Pretty Riddle, which will initially be released as a one track download on 15 January, followed by a 3 track bundle on March 4th, which will include an acoustic version of live favourite Small Town and a hauntingly memorable cover of Paramore’s Renegade.
The single showcases their deft ability to deliver arrangements boasting equal parts grace and melancholy. They create a textured aural aesthetic, filled with musical depth and lyrical prowess, opening an emotive rhetoric on loved ones, our desire to stop time, and preserve moments and memories. An understated anthem, both reflective and upbeat, broken, staccato rhythms break out into an expansive chorus, straddling desperation and strength, wholly mirroring the subject matter.
Next on the release is Small Town. A similarly contentious theme of destroying perfection while one revels in the results, this charming acoustic version is a stripped back version of the original favourite, wherein grungier tones dominate, as gritty baritones underpin powerful harmonies and a multitude of cymbals, culminating in dramatic crescendos, beatless breakdowns, and a frenetic solo. And, finally, we have a new take on a classic originally written by another act the band list amongst their influences, with Paramore’s Renegade here reworked into a truly alternative version.
A band born out of the UK, North America, Spain and Thailand, Missed You At The Show formed in 2009. Polish-Canadian singer Mike Poplawski and Spanish keyboard player Sergio Llopis Pascual met in a pub whilst studying music at the University of Salford, before recruiting bass player Suthee Phoncheewin. An arduous search for a top class drummer led them to Cheshire-born Aaron Colton, and then fifth member Shaun Holland completed the jigsaw in 2010. All signs suggest this is one lineup set for substantial success. So with a forthcoming album, and more live dates to come, it goes without saying the right eyes are watching this promising space.
